SKORP AND FRIENDS
WELCOME TO SKORP AND FRIENDS PAGE YAY!!!!!!
skorp, morgrim and mud are Hello from the Hallowoods ocs (hit audio drama. i love it lots and lots i actually have a whole page on it. erm it is really old and outdated though.) HOWEVER you don't need to know much hfth lore to understand them

brief hfth lore if you haven't listened to the show
hello from the hallowoods is set in a universe where an apocalyptic event called the Black Rains happened. which resulted in the world changing and becoming very weird. the dead returning, monsters appearing, people turning into monsters. fun stuff!!! i say monsters but half the time the monsters are way friendlier than the people, and over time the distinction between what and who is and isn't human gets a lot more blurry. The Hallowoods is a big forest where a lot of the story is set. and also where skorp and friends are hanging around! there might be mentions of a few characters or locations. but. the black rains is the key thing to know about.
Effects of the black water (especially the rains first fell) include:
- loss of sense of self
- insanity
- mutations unique to the individual
- the dead being resurrected
- the urge to drown oneself
SKORPIOUS GRIMM!!!

Skorp is a bunch of zoo animals that were trapped and got merged together after the black rains fell and flooded the place. It only has vague blurry memories of the animals it used to be, and often has very conflicting reactions to things based around the animals it used to be
Skorp could be described as. a very big dog. It's very enthusastic and loves to help people (even if. they run away in terror!). its kind and patient and kind of horrifying and also trying it's best. It's favourite things are friendship and eating. It ate muds dad
IT LOVES ITS FRIENDS MORGRIM AND MUD!!! its constantly concerned over mud and likes to give it dead things like a cat would becayse it thinks mud is very small and can't hunt for itself. (its right). Morgrim it is less concerned over because she is strong and has a gun. and more importantly has a big horse. therefore morgrim gets less frequent but more impressive gifts. like giant freaking rotting deer. The three of them travel the hallowoods together. skorp sometimes runs off and does its own thing but it always finds them again. after all. it needs to make sure mud doesnt sink into the bog again. Skorp also likes to take them along on its fun sidequests of which it has many. its very accomplished, has many jobs.
Okay skorp things are a little abstract but i am doing my best.
Skorp is a creature that is made of many creatures and is also constantly changing. When skorp eats something, it is able to gain a little insight on it. For example, if it ate a frog, it doesnt become the frog and the frog doesnt become it. but skorp is able to understand a bit more about the frog, a bit more about the pond it lived in. Its not the frog. but its a little more like the frog now.
This also helps expand how it communicates as. it cannot speak so it communicates by sending telepathic abstract animal metaphors directly into your brain!!! If you're not used to this, they can be a little difficult to interpret and you may wonder why you're suddenly thinking about horses running in circles. Morgrim and Mud are very skilled at interpetting these though. This is one of the reasons why eating creatures is so useful to it as it gives it more animals to communicate with. Eating helps it communicate. eating is so essential to skorp. EATING TO UNDERSTAND THE WORLD!!!!
I need to. um. write this better properly later. But because of it's realtionship with eating and changing and being made up of so many things, it doesn't really view itself as an individual, does not make the distinction between where it ends and the forest begins. It's part of the Hallowoods! It doesn't really understand death, or at least why people get so torn up over it, because in it's mind, death is not an end. it's creatures becoming different creatures, growing, merging. lots of fun!! since meeting morgirm and mud howeever (and eating muds dad. this is actually very important for skorp I will get back to this) it understands that being eaten is very scary for some people and would onlt do that if you were okay with it  . mostly. sometimes
we are still figuring plot. events out. but i think later it's viewpoint shifts a bit. (not. completely. eating and changing and being part of the world is still very important to skorp.) but it finds itself a little, becomes more than just an almagamation of creatures (it was also only like. a year max old when it meets mud and morgrim). It also realises that even if death isn't an end, it still wouldn't want it's friends to disappear. the effects of the blackwater has hurt and changed it's friends in different ways and it isn't as okay about Mud slowly being overtaken by fungi. dying. as it once would have been. it loves mud! it doesn't want mud to go anywhere, it doesn't want mud to disappear, even if it's just beocming something new. if mud dies it still wants to eat its corpse though. of course. this is a very lovely gesture from skorp though, i promise. it wants to take them with it forever
FUN SKORP FACTS
- It's mouth is on its stomach and so it sits on things to eat them. It can also store and hold things in it's stomach. mud can fit in there if it wants.
- Mort (hfth character) was the one who gave it it's hat, from it's brief time working at the grand crossroads hotel
- The mushrooms on its back are the same ones that are part of mud! however skorp is so big that they don't really have much of an effect on it, other than maybe making it's likes twitch sometimes.
- It gets memories and feelings from dead things too, which is mostly what it eats!!! its more interesting to it. the more it eats the more information it gets
- Skorp is very enamoured by Petrichor (morgrim's undead horse) and thinks they're the coolest creature in the world. really wants to impress this horse
MUD!!!

Before Mud, there was Eileen (she/they). She traveled with her dad, not planning staying in one place too long. They stopped before winter hit in a small town located the side of a forest known for its extra cryptics and dangers, the Hallowoods. Like everything since the black rain, the Hallowoods spread unnaturally fast and sadly for this little town their crops got overgrown and completely destroyed by the growing woods.
This usually would be bad but fixable but the overgrowth brough mutated fungus that has grown not only on their crops but on the people.
The fungus itself was originally was commonly known as a Zombie fungus which could sprout on small ants and slowly take over their bodies until it died feeding it. Now, mutated, can eat and infect and spread on more complex organic matter.
Eileen's father at a desperate attempt to get food so they at least don't starve to death, went to the forest. He didn't come back and Eileen refused to stay and slowly die like the other residence because of the fungus and planned to leave and find their dad. (maybe chased out by the other zombie fungi victims)
Regardless, their plan didn't go well and the fungi did spread on her as well. Scared, lost, without anything more to lose they jumped into the waters, refusing to become just an easy meal for the fungi planning on taking it down with them.
AND THAT'S HOW MUD WAS BORN, MADE, BECAME, IDK.
Eileen's plan didn't go. Um. Well. In the Hallowoods nothing dies easily, corpses coming back differently unless burned. And Eileen wasn't any different. Very unfortunate for them the fungi didn't go down as well
Mud now out of the bog wandering around with only vague memories of a life that doesn't belong to it anymore. Struggling against the fungi whose vessel usually died and it could move it like a puppet. But this puppet was already dead and wasn't fond of being dragged around without is own will. ("immortality as parasitism (there is something else inside You that is keeping you alive and you become less of yourself more and more the longer it stays in you" from this tumblr post.)
DESIGN NOTES!
- Its eyes are slightly glowy and range between yellowy orange to vibrant olive green.
- Mud doesn't wear shoes, it lost them in the bog and is never planning on getting another pair.
- Mud's tail is kinda like a long pig's tail, it also has thin fur in some places like pigs (ears and nose mostly).
- The mushrooms growing on its head start from the top of its spine and continue to the top of its head, they're also that beige color. I just like coloring them red but they're based on the zombie fungi so brown is more accurate.
MORRIGAN GRIMM!!

Morrigan kept to herself for the most part, tending to her family work horse, sticking with her family and avoiding trouble in her town. Despite him minding his business it was hard for him to not notice when his neighbors were acting.. off. An infection was spreading through her small town, people started acting like madmen. He avoided the food, the towns water, anything that could cause it. Eventually that included her own family. She ran far far away with her horse, just the clothes on her back and the old family rifle. He lasted a while, using his experience hunting for food, until she encountered monsters she'd never seen before near her old town. She never stood a chance. The monster kills them, leaving him a corpse in the flooded bayou with his companion. Where none shall remember them.
The corpse wakes coughing and heaving the water out of its lungs, its claws desperately grabbing at the sodden dirt of the bayou. It pulls itself up and leans on its fellow undead companion, shaking the mud out of its clothes. Taking off its hat, it peers inside it, noticing worn out lettering. "Mo#r#### Gri#m". The original owner of this hat? The maker? Its mind an empty slate, It makes its first decision a selfish one. The name shall now be theirs. Morgrim places the hat back on their head, setting forward on a new path.
They travel across marsh and forest, encountering all kinds of creatures and faces, assisting many who require protection or safe travel. One night on their journey they notice a fungi covered corpse in the mud. not that much of an uncommon sight in the apocalypse, but the chance of them being missed by loved ones is enough of a reason to stop and look. What they weren't expecting was for it to talk. Or to ask random questions. Or to keep following them. Or to say their name is mud. (a fitting one, considering where they were collapsed a few minutes ago).
With their new parasite (affectionate) of a travel companion, they resume their journey, leading on for whatever may spark any memories lost to the water. During a hunt for food, their mind was intrusively filled with images of all kinds of animals hunting and biting down on prey, turning around they see a beast. One of mismatched parts, and a drooling mouth. They're caught off guard, only able to avoid getting trampled by their horse delivering a solid kick to the creatures side. However instead of the tough battle with this creature that they were expecting, it promptly assumed a submissive pose, acting intimidated and... apologetic??? it flashed more images in their mind, ones of animals bowing their heads down and looking.. sad? Not wanting any further conflict, morgrim simply took it at face value, pulling their horse away from attacking the creature any further (she refused to take her eyes off it.), and headed towards the nearest village. Except the creature followed too, displaying a friendly demeanor. Mud insisted on keeping it, claiming it could help defend against monsters. Morgrim was too tired to decline the offer. With their party now grown, she finds herself getting into trouble all over the Hallowoods, meeting new faces and forming new memories of his own.
FUN MORGRIM FACTS
- morrigan was originally referred to with it, and then they. Eventually, he remembers pronouns (and the concept of the social construct that is gender) and uses he/she, sort of as away to show her regaining her identity.
- His rifle is actually similar to a harpoon gun, with the harpoon being attached to a chain and the gun having a crank for the chain to be pulled back. (ITS BASICALLY THE GUN THAT DEATHSLINGER FROM DBD HAS, GO LOOK AT IT) He also has a normal revolver for actual gun stuff lol
- Petrichor's design is similar to a kelpie, just without most fish features, like tail, gills etc. (it's like constantly waterlogged, and has sharp teeth)
